Pointing is the outermost skin that is troweled on and typically covers the ridge cappings. It used to be sand and cement based, but not it is rubberised, to create a highly flexible skin, that allows it to flex and not crack in the changing weather conditions. Roof pointing or flexible pointing, as it is known in the trade, goes on after the ridges have been bedded on a sand and cement base.
